Nicaragua wins two bronzes, loses to Belize in opening basketball at Santo Domingo Games

Nicaragua’s delegation of 204 members, including 148 athletes, competed in 21 sports at the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, from 24 July to 8 August. The nation secured two bronze medals: Candelaria Resano in surf and Aldo Blanco in taekwondo.

In the opening men’s basketball match, Belize defeated Nicaragua 99–85. Belize’s Josiah Moseley led with 32 points and 10 rebounds, while Douglas Langford added a double‑double of 19 points and 15 rebounds. Nicaragua’s top scorer was Joost West with 27 points and 11 rebounds.
