Nicaragua conducts municipal consultations on constitutional reforms

Nicaraguan Vice President Rosario Murillo has highlighted the ongoing municipal consultation process regarding constitutional reforms under the ‘Plan Hay Patria’. The sessions, which have included meetings in Sébaco, San Isidro, and Condega, are described by the government as expressions of direct democracy involving families, youth, workers, and producers.

The proposed reforms aim to consolidate national sovereignty. Key provisions include stipulations that no laws or regulations from foreign states or international organizations shall have legal effect within Nicaragua. Additionally, the reforms seek to restrict individuals from holding public office if they promote foreign interference or request military intervention in the country.
