Nicaragua defends national sovereignty against foreign questioning

Nicaragua's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued responses to Guatemala, Peru, and Paraguay, asserting its national sovereignty in the face of diplomatic questioning. The Ministry stated that the sovereignty of a people is not subject to discussion and criticized the questioning nations for having their own issues regarding legitimacy and unity.

In a separate communication to Costa Rica, Vice Foreign Minister Valdrack Jaentschke emphasized the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states. This follows concerns expressed by the Costa Rican foreign ministry regarding what it termed a “democratic deterioration” in Nicaragua following recent constitutional reforms passed by the National Assembly.

President Daniel Ortega defended the approved reforms, stating their fundamental objective is to protect national sovereignty and self-determination.
