Nicaragua begins second phase of constitutional reform consultations
The second phase of public consultations regarding constitutional reforms has commenced in Nicaragua, beginning in the municipalities of the Estelí department. Co-President Rosario Murillo announced the process, which aims to facilitate citizen participation in the proposed modifications to the country’s Political Constitution.
In Estelí, residents participated in voting sessions to express support for the reforms, which were previously approved by the National Assembly in its first legislature on September 1. The consultation process, titled ‘Hay Patria’, involves the Special Constitutional Commission visiting various municipalities to gather public input. Local leaders and community members, including representatives from the Sandinista Youth, have indicated that the reforms are intended to strengthen institutional stability and the current social model.
Supporters of the measure state that the constitutional changes are necessary to adapt the legal framework to the country’s evolving political and social reality, while also aiming to protect national sovereignty.
