Nicaragua inaugurates Centro Momotombo emergency monitoring center

Nicaragua has inaugurated the Centro Momotombo de Monitoreo, Alerta y Respuesta in Managua to strengthen the nation's ability to monitor natural phenomena and respond to emergencies. Developed with support from the People's Republic of China, the 4,000-square-meter seismic-resistant facility is part of the National Emergency Response System (SINAREM).

The center enables the National System for Disaster Prevention, Mitigation, and Attention (SINAPRED) and the Nicaraguan Institute of Territorial Studies (INETER) to process real-time data and issue early warnings for earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, hurricanes, and floods. The facility is equipped with high-speed data centers, 12 operational application systems, and seven technological platforms.

To expand the national monitoring network, the project includes the deployment of numerous specialized stations, including 89 seismic stations, 25 volcanic surveillance stations, 20 automatic meteorological stations, and 20 hydrological stations. The technological suite also features satellite technology, drones for aerial reconnaissance and supply transport, and rescue robots.
