Nicaragua observes Day of the Dead with mass cemetery visits

Thousands of families across Nicaragua visited cemeteries on November 2 to commemorate the Day of the Dead. In 153 municipalities, citizens gathered to clean, decorate, and honor the graves of loved ones with flowers, candles, and prayers. Local markets saw increased activity, selling floral arrangements, religious items, and traditional foods.

While the holiday involved significant community and economic activity, reports indicate that religious masses were not held in cemeteries for the fourth consecutive year, a restriction attributed to the current administration.

In Managua, the Juventud Sandinista 19 de Julio placed floral offerings at the Plaza de la Revolución and the General Cemetery to honor FSLN founders and family members of the country's leaders. Additionally, Copresident Rosario Murillo issued a message of faith and hope to the nation, emphasizing the spiritual significance of the day.

Regarding local commerce, most Nicaraguan banks, including Lafise, BAC, Banpro, BDF, and Banco Ficohsa, limited in-person services to a half-day, while Banco Atlántida remained the only institution to maintain full operating hours.
