Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds stage surprise rooftop show in Brighton before Preston Park concert
On 31 July 2026, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds surprised fans with an impromptu four‑song set on the roof of Resident Records in Brighton’s North Lane. The band opened with “Train Long‑Suffering”, followed by a piano‑driven cover of T. Rex’s “Cosmic Dancer”, a rendition of “Henry Lee” featuring backing singer Janet Ramus, and closed with the sing‑along “Papa Won’t Leave You, Henry”. Cave shouted “F***ing Brighton! What a thing to be doing” and thanked the shop, his wife Susie and son Earl during the performance.
Later that evening the group headlined a sold‑out, UK‑exclusive homecoming show at Preston Park, supported by The Flaming Lips, English Teacher, Cate Le Bon and Warmduscher. Australian pop icon Kylie Minogue joined the band on stage to perform their 1995 duet “Where the Wild Roses Grow”, marking their first live collaboration of the song since 2019. The event was accompanied by a record‑shop takeover, a special welcome message at Brighton station, and a film‑screening series curated by Cave.
