Nick Saban’s Letter Helps Ex‑Lions Cornerback Terrion Arnold Secure $1 Million Bail
Former Alabama head coach Nick Saban submitted a character‑reference letter to a Tampa judge on behalf of former Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold. Arnold had turned himself in after being linked to a February 4 incident in Florida that prosecutors describe as an armed robbery and kidnapping scheme. He faces three counts each of armed robbery and kidnapping, plus conspiracy charges.
The judge considered Saban’s testimony, which praised Arnold’s “exceptional character,” humility and respect, and set a $1 million bond with conditions that include surrendering his passport and no contact with witnesses. Arnold posted the bond and was released from custody. Shortly after his release, the Lions cut Arnold from their roster.
Saban’s letter, written on University of Alabama letterhead, emphasized that in the six years he knew Arnold, he never observed conduct that would raise doubts about his integrity. The letter formed part of a larger packet of 12 character references reviewed by the court. Arnold remains presumed innocent until proven guilty and will face trial on the felony charges.
