Nicko McBrain expresses interest in recording new Iron Maiden album
Iron Maiden drummer Nicko McBrain has expressed interest in recording a new studio album with the band, provided the music is physically less demanding. Although McBrain concluded his touring career with the group in December 2024 following the 'The Future Past' tour, he remains an official member of the band. Simon Dawson has taken over drumming duties for live performances.
The 74-year-old musician noted that new compositions would need to be in the style of tracks like ‘Stranger in a Strange Land’ or ‘Wasted Years’ from the 1986 album 'Somewhere in Time'. This request follows health challenges, including a minor stroke in January 2023 that affected the mobility of his left side. McBrain reported that during his recent tour, he felt he could only utilize approximately 70 percent of his hand's capacity, necessitating adjustments to certain drum parts.
