Nicko McBrain's potential return to Iron Maiden

Overview

Iron Maiden drummer Nicko McBrain has expressed interest in recording a new studio album with the band, provided the musical compositions are less physically demanding.

Following a minor stroke in January 2023 that affected his mobility, McBrain concluded his touring career with the group in December 2024 after ‘The Future Past’ tour. While Simon Dawson has assumed drumming duties for live performances, McBrain remains an official member of the band.

McBrain noted that he has recovered approximately 70 percent of his hand mobility but finds the band’s more complex material difficult to execute. To facilitate a return to the studio, he suggested the band focus on styles similar to tracks such as ‘Stranger in a Strange Land’ or ‘Wasted Years’ from the 1986 album ‘Somewhere in Time’. He also acknowledged receiving significant support from bassist Steve Harris and the rest of the band during his final tour.
