Nicko McBrain sets condition for returning to Iron Maiden studio recordings

Iron Maiden drummer Nicko McBrain has expressed interest in returning to the studio to record with the band, provided the musical compositions are simpler than their usual demanding material.

McBrain has stepped away from live performances following a stroke in January 2023, with Simon Dawson currently filling his role on stage. While he remains a member of the group, the physical limitations resulting from his health issues have made it difficult to execute the band's more complex songs. He noted that while he has recovered approximately 70% of his hand mobility, he can no longer perform certain parts, such as the iconic drum roll in ‘The Trooper’.

To facilitate a studio return, McBrain suggested that the band focus on styles similar to ‘Stranger in a Strange Land’ or ‘Wasted Years’, which would better suit his current physical capabilities. He noted that despite his difficulties, he received significant support from bassist Steve Harris and the rest of the band during his last tour, the Future Past tour in 2024.
