Spider-Noir cancelled by Prime Video after one season

Prime Video and MGM+ have cancelled the live-action Marvel series ‘Spider-Noir’ after its first season. The show, which stars Nicolas Cage as 1930s private investigator Ben Reilly, debuted in May 2026 and consisted of eight episodes.

Despite the cancellation, the series achieved significant critical and industry success. It earned 11 Emmy nominations—the most for any Prime Video series in 2026—and won five Creative Arts Emmys for categories including cinematography, sound editing, and special visual effects. The series also maintained high audience and critic scores, including a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Reports suggest the decision was driven by high production costs and a decline in viewership following a strong initial launch that saw 2.6 billion minutes viewed in the first six weeks. Nicolas Cage responded to the news by stating, ‘For me, one season is perfect, having said what I wanted to say with this dangerous, innovative, pop-art Spider-Man.’

The cancellation is part of a broader development agreement between Amazon and Sony Pictures Television, though both companies are reportedly continuing to work on other Marvel-related projects.
