Niebla forest fire enters containment phase after affecting 38,000 hectares
The massive forest fire in Niebla, Huelva, which has affected over 38,000 hectares, is entering a containment phase. Regional authorities report that the fire is no longer considered 'beyond firefighting capacity' after crews successfully 'choked off' several flanks, including the southern and northwestern sectors.
The eastern sector remains the most active and dangerous front, currently threatening areas in the province of Seville, including Castillo de las Guardas and Aznalcóllar. Firefighting efforts have been complicated by pyrocumulus clouds and convective activity, which have caused spot fires up to 3.5 kilometers away.
Andalusian President Juanma Moreno announced that 114 residents from the Zalamea la Real municipality, including those from El Pozuelo and Las Delgadas, are authorized to return to their homes. This follows the return of 60 people earlier in the week. While officials express optimism that the situation is reaching the 'beginning of the end,' they warn that high winds exceeding 50 km/h could still reignite controlled areas.
