Niebla residents applaud UME as forest fire response forces begin withdrawal
Residents of Niebla, Huelva, gathered to applaud the Military Emergencies Unit (UME) as the troops began their withdrawal on Sunday. The deployment followed the stabilization of the Raboconejo forest fire, which was declared on August 6 and destroyed more than 38,000 hectares of land.
Acting Government Delegate in Andalusia, Francisco Toscano, announced a progressive withdrawal of state resources. While the UME returns to its base in Morón de la Frontera and some aerial means from the Ministry for Ecological Transition begin to depart, the government will maintain key resources on the ground. This includes the Civil Guard, who will continue to assist with resident relocation and ensure security as people return to their homes.
The Niebla City Council expressed deep gratitude to the military personnel for their intense work and bravery in protecting the community and the environment during the crisis.
