Nigel Farage faces criticism for politicising Ann Widdecombe's death

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage said he believed former Conservative MP Ann Widdecombe's death was a "premeditated murder" rather than a burglary gone wrong, and laid a wreath at her Dartmoor home. He was criticised for using the incident as "political propaganda", with former colleague Harvey Proctor stating the family did not want the tragedy hijacked for political purposes. Police have asked the public not to speculate on motive, after a 28‑year‑old white British man was arrested on suspicion of murder in Rotherham.

The controversy comes amid earlier scrutiny of Farage for failing to declare a £5 million gift from crypto billionaire Christopher Harborne. Reform activist Matt Goodza defended Farage, comparing the criticism to accusations against Labour MPs over Jo Cox's murder.
