Niger and Algeria begin drilling at Kafra South-East oil well
Niger and Algeria have officially commenced drilling operations at the Kafra South-East 1 exploratory well in the Agadez region of northern Niger. The project is being executed by the Sipex Niger platform, managed by the Algerian drilling company Enafor, a subsidiary of Sonatrach.
The drilling campaign, which may reach a depth of 3,900 meters, is located approximately 85 kilometers from the Algerian border. The initiative is viewed by both governments as a way to strengthen energy cooperation and develop Niger's northern petroleum potential.
In addition to technical operations, the project includes a component for local content and skill development. This involves the transfer of Algerian technology and know-how to Nigerien executives and workers, alongside technical cooperation with the Nigerien petroleum products company, Sonidep.
