Niger Delta Development Commission to support Bonny tourism
The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and Renaissance Africa Energy Company have announced support for a strategic initiative to develop tourism in Bonny Kingdom, Nigeria. The move aims to diversify the Niger Delta economy and reduce its heavy reliance on the oil and gas sectors.
During the Bonny Island Tourism and Investment Summit, NDDC Managing Director Dr. Samuel Ogbuku outlined a three-year programme designed to transform the region into a globally competitive tourism destination. The initiative, titled ‘Discover Bonny and Orange Economy’, is expected to stimulate growth in various sectors, including finance, education, healthcare, security, and communication.
Renaissance Africa Energy Company CEO Tony Attah reaffirmed the company’s commitment to the project, noting that Bonny’s identity should extend beyond its energy heritage. Attah emphasized that sustainable tourism could serve as a vital economic complement to the existing energy industry, fostering shared prosperity and investment opportunities on the island.
