Niger Destroys Over 319 kg of Seized Cocaine in Niamey

On 7 June 2026, Nigerien authorities incinerated 319.7 kg of cocaine seized in multiple operations across the country. The destruction took place at the Central Livestock Laboratory (LABOCEL) in Niamey under the oversight of the National Drug‑Control Coordination Commission (CNCLD). The seized cocaine came from 47 bricks intercepted in Gaya, Dosso Region on 29 September 2025 and 233 bricks seized in Zinder on 19 May 2026.

The ceremony was attended by CNCLD president Mai Moussa Elhadji Bashir, Justice Minister Alio Daouda, the prosecutor of the High Court of Niamey, the director of the Central Office for the Repression of Illicit Drug Trafficking (OCRTIS) and senior security and defence officials. Officials said the rapid destruction complies with international standards and helps prevent the risks associated with storing large quantities of seized narcotics.

The operation underscores Niger’s intensified effort to combat drug‑trafficking networks that threaten security and stability throughout the Sahel region.
