On 28‑29 July 2026, Niger's government and the Bank of West African States (BOAD) signed financing agreements totaling 60.6 billion FCFA to boost the country's agriculture and electricity sectors. The deal allocates 30 billion FCFA to the Office National des Aménagements Hydro‑agricoles (ONAHA) for irrigation infrastructure and 30.6 billion FCFA to the Nigerien Electricity Company (NIGELEC) for a 23‑MW power project.
At the same time, Energy Minister Amadou Haoua inaugurated a three‑day fair in Niamey showcasing subsidised solar kits, clean‑cooking appliances and other off‑grid energy solutions under the Haské project, a World Bank‑financed programme aimed at expanding renewable energy access and creating jobs across urban and rural areas.
