Niger State: Gunmen abduct worshippers in Borgu mass kidnapping

Suspected terrorists or armed bandits attacked several communities in the Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, Nigeria, on Friday. The attackers targeted worshippers at mosques in Dekara, Gidan Zana, Masaka, and Sabon Gida shortly after Friday prayers.

While the exact number of victims remains unconfirmed by official police sources, local residents reported that more than 60 people were abducted. Among those taken are the Village Head of Ka’ada and the 90-year-old father of the Dekara District Head. Some reports suggest the attackers specifically targeted elders who had advocated for increased military presence in the region.

The Niger State Police Command confirmed the abductions and stated that no lives have been reported lost so far. However, rescue operations are facing significant logistical hurdles, including difficult terrain, poor road networks, and a collapsed bridge that connects the affected communities to the Borgu Local Government headquarters.
