Nigeria advances compressed natural gas infrastructure and adoption
Efforts to expand compressed natural gas (CNG) infrastructure and adoption are gaining momentum in Nigeria. In Ondo State, a proposed project by OCTAGRAM Fusion CNG, in partnership with the Ondo State Development and Investment Promotion Agency (ONDIPA), aims to establish a CNG mother station. The facility is planned to have a processing capacity of nine million standard cubic feet of gas per day, intended to supply manufacturers and transport operators as an alternative to petroleum fuels.
While the Ondo project has obtained a Licence to Establish, it still requires construction authorization and financing. Nationally, the National Compressed Natural Gas Forum (NCNG-F) is calling for increased collaboration between government agencies, transport unions, and financial institutions. NCNG-F Chairman Faruk Abdullahi emphasized that widespread adoption depends on making CNG accessible, affordable, and safe, noting that the removal of fuel subsidies has increased costs for households and businesses.
