Nigeria advocates call for inclusive support and education for children with disabilities

Stakeholders in Nigeria are calling for enhanced protections and inclusive services for children with disabilities, particularly those affected by conflict and displacement. At a national policy dialogue held at the University of Maiduguri, Hon. Mohammed Abba Isa, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities, emphasized the need for disability-inclusive psychosocial support and accessible humanitarian interventions to address the disproportionate trauma and neglect faced by these children.

In a separate effort focused on education, advocates in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have urged the administration to move beyond policy adoption toward active implementation of its Inclusive Education Policy. During an event organized by the Intellectual Disability Cluster, representatives from CBM Global Disability Inclusion and other partners stressed that meaningful participation for children with intellectual disabilities requires adequate funding, teacher training, accessible materials, and inclusive infrastructure to overcome existing barriers.
