Nigeria announces 774,000-home social housing scheme

Nigeria’s Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Muttaqha Rabe Darma, has announced plans to construct 774,000 housing units nationwide under the National Social Housing Programme. The initiative aims to provide affordable homeownership opportunities for low and medium-income earners, with a specific focus on serving and retired military and police personnel.

As part of this effort, the government intends to deliver 1,550 units of the Renewed Hope Military housing project by the end of the year. The Minister reaffirmed support for the Nigerian Army Post Service Housing Development programme during a meeting with Major General K. O. Ukandu.

In a separate political development, Minister Darma also inaugurated the Katsina State coordination committee of the Arewa for Asiwaju (A4A) group. He stated that the group is tasked with documenting and communicating the achievements of President Bola Tinubu’s administration across Northern Nigeria to mobilize support for the 2027 elections.
