Nigeria: At least 50 killed in armed bandit attack on Binari village

The death toll from an armed attack on the village of Binari in Taraba State, Nigeria, has risen to at least 50 people. The assault occurred on Friday following Muslim prayers, with attackers arriving on motorcycles.

Survivors reported that while an initial count suggested 20 deaths, many more bodies were discovered on Saturday, including 43 individuals found in a nearby river. Residents noted that many, particularly women and children, drowned while attempting to flee the gunmen.

The attackers, believed to be local criminal gangs known as bandits, also engaged in looting shops and burning homes, livestock, and motorcycles. Amnesty International’s Nigerian branch reported a death toll of 52, noting the large number of perpetrators involved in the raid.
