Nigeria authorities recover stolen fuel and disrupt illegal refineries

Authorities in Nigeria have conducted separate operations targeting petroleum-related crimes. In Lagos, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recovered 2.3 million litres of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) valued at approximately N4.485 billion. The recovery follows an investigation into Mamemo Ibru of Ibafon Oil and Gas, who was accused of converting products belonging to Prudent Energy and Services Limited. A physical reconciliation revealed a deficit of over 2.3 million litres from the stored stock, which Ibru allegedly trucked out for personal use.

In Rivers State, the Nigerian Navy disrupted three illegal refining sites in the Egbema axis under Operation DELTA SENTINEL. Personnel from the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Pathfinder recovered roughly 85,000 litres of suspected illegally refined AGO. This operation follows a similar disruption in the same area earlier in August, as part of ongoing efforts to degrade crude oil theft and illegal refining networks.
