In a broader strategic realignment, the Nigerian government has shifted the deployment of US-supplied security hardware—including advanced surveillance drones and communication systems—from counter-terrorism operations in the North East to the protection of critical oil infrastructure in the South. This move follows reports from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd regarding significant losses from sophisticated crude siphoning in the Trans-Forcados and Trans-Niger pipelines.
