Overview
Operation Delta Sentinel has continued its aggressive campaign against illegal oil refining, theft, and smuggling in the Niger Delta. Throughout late 2026, the Nigerian Navy conducted numerous raids in the Okrika, Rivers, and Delta State waterways, seizing hundreds of thousands of litres of stolen petroleum, crude oil, and automotive gas oil (AGO), while dismantling illegal refining sites.
In September 2026, naval operations in Rivers State yielded significant recoveries, including 119,850 litres of suspected stolen crude in the Ogbogolo Community and 182,000 litres in Bethel Creeks. During the same period, the NSCDC increased maritime surveillance in Rivers State, reporting 81 operations and 148 arrests over a 100-day period. In Lagos, the NSCDC dismantled a pipeline vandalism syndicate, seizing 60,000 litres of petrol. Meanwhile, the Navy recovered 80,000 litres of crude in Delta State and conducted joint raids with the NDLEA to disrupt drug trafficking networks.
To bolster its offensive, the Navy launched a renewed crackdown on piracy and sea robbery, including ‘Exercise Littoral Fury’ in Cross River State. In early October, naval forces dismantled a refining site in Bonny and rescued two kidnap victims in Akwa Ibom State. Strategically, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas pledged enhanced security support to oil producers to protect infrastructure and boost output through improved intelligence sharing and technology.
Operations continued into late October. On 22 October, personnel from Forward Operating Base BONNY uncovered 132,000 litres of suspected stolen crude in the Allison community, disrupting a potential illicit supply chain point.
