Nigeria aviation authorities start workforce training programme and probe license fraud

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has launched the International Civil Aviation Organization’s Next Generation of Aviation Professionals Global Maiden Edition, a four‑day programme held from 20 to 23 July at the FAAN Training School. The training covers technical and leadership skills for staff across airport operations, security, rescue, engineering, finance, human resources, safety and other units, aiming to build a sustainable talent pipeline amid global aviation workforce shortages. The launch was made by FAAN Managing Director Olubunmi Kuku and Director of Special Duties Obiageli Orah, who stressed the importance of continuous skill development and succession planning.

Separately, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has opened an investigation into a suspected syndicate that allegedly issues Aircraft Maintenance Engineer licences to foreign engineers for fees between N500,000 and N700,000, far above the official N50,000 cost. The probe, referenced in a June 29, 2026 letter concerning licence number 6520, also examines private‑jet pilots renewing licences without mandatory simulator training. The NCAA has requested documentation, suspended licence privileges and warned of further action if no response is received.
