Nigeria Basketball Federation announces election timeline and presidential bid
The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) has released an official timeline for its upcoming Executive Board elections, scheduled to take place on October 15, 2026, in Abuja. Following an Extraordinary Congress in Yola, a seven-man Electoral Committee led by Dr. Lanre Glover has been established to oversee the process. The elections will be monitored by representatives from FIBA, the National Olympic Committee, and the National Sports Commission.
The electoral schedule includes the collection of nomination forms in late September, candidate screening in early October, and elections for player and technical representatives. The new board will consist of a President, Vice-President, and various zonal and stakeholder representatives, including members from player unions, coaches' associations, and corporate sponsors.
In a related development, former Nigerian international player Olumide Oyedeji has formally declared his candidacy for the NBBF presidency. During a press briefing in Lagos, Oyedeji pledged to prioritize grassroots development, enhance domestic competitions, and improve player welfare. He intends to leverage his professional international experience to strengthen the federation’s global partnerships and create better pathways for local talent.
