Nigerian Catholic bishops condemn massacres and mass kidnappings
The Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) has issued an urgent plea to end ongoing violence following a series of deadly attacks in Niger and Benue states. Archbishop Matthew Man-Oso Ndagoso, president of the CBCN, signed the statement condemning recent massacres and mass kidnappings.
In Ukum, Benue State, an attack resulted in the deaths of 47 people and left 17 others seriously injured. Additionally, in the Borgu region of Niger State, armed groups kidnapped more than 60 worshippers during Friday prayers at a mosque.
The bishops expressed solidarity with both Christian and Muslim communities, emphasizing that attacks on places of worship are attacks on the entire community. They called on political leaders and security forces to take proactive measures to address the deteriorating security situation and prevent further bloodshed.
