Nigeria Customs intercepts ₦3.67bn in illicit drugs at Tin Can Island Port
The Nigeria Customs Service Tin Can Island Port Command, in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, has intercepted two 40-foot containers containing suspected illicit drugs valued at approximately ₦3.67 billion.
The first seizure, occurring on September 2, 2026, involved 890 packs of Delta-8 cannabis-infused cookies and gummies weighing 598.08 kilograms. These were concealed alongside a 2008 Mercedes-Benz and a 2012 Nissan Infiniti.
A second container intercepted on September 16, 2026, contained 1,207 packages of Cannabis Indica weighing 603.75 kilograms. This shipment included several used vehicles, such as Toyota Sienna and Corolla models, as well as engine spare parts.
In total, the two seizures amounted to 1,201.83 kilograms of substances. Intelligence reports traced the consignments to Canada. Officials noted that the use of legitimate vehicle imports and automobile spare parts is a tactic used by smuggling networks to exploit containerized cargo.
