Nigeria Customs Oyo/Osun revenue rises 14% amid major security seizures
The Nigeria Customs Service Oyo/Osun Area Command reported a 13.88 per cent increase in revenue generation between January and August 2026, collecting approximately N65.66 billion compared to N57.66 billion during the same period in 2025.
During anti-smuggling operations in August 2026, the command intercepted various prohibited and restricted goods with a cumulative Duty Paid Value of N4.11 billion. Notable seizures included 573 Nigeria Police Force crests, 92 yards of police camouflage fabric, a pistol, six pistol magazines, a pump-action magazine, and 60 detonating cords. Acting Customs Area Controller Wale Moses Adewole noted that the interception of police-related materials raises serious security concerns regarding potential impersonation.
Other seized items included 2,562 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 2,440 wraps of cannabis sativa, 48 packs of tramadol, 1,150 used tyres, 101 used compressors, 5,000 litres of premium motor spirit, 17 used vehicles, and 10 containers of mercury. The seized materials have been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) for further processing.
