Nigeria Defence Minister Calls for Media Cooperation to Counter Terrorism
Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, retired General Christopher Musa, met with the executive members of the Defence Correspondents Association of Nigeria (DECAN) at the Ministry of Defence in Abuja. He said the media is essential for changing mindsets and countering terrorist ideology, stating, “Terrorism begins with a radical ideology, and such an ideology cannot be defeated with military hardware alone; it must also be countered with information.” He pledged an open‑door policy for journalists, urging “effective collaboration between the military and the media” to provide accurate information during asymmetric warfare. The ministry will review DECAN’s proposals and implement feasible ones, and the association will confer the title of Grand Patron on General Musa at its conference and awards ceremony scheduled for October 2026.
