Nigeria Democracy Day speeches call for security, global opportunity
On Nigeria's Democracy Day, Franklin Nechi, chairman of Optiva Capital Partners, praised the nation's democratic resilience and urged an expanded focus on economic empowerment. He said democracy should enable citizens to "dream, build businesses, create wealth, access opportunities, and provide a better future for our families," emphasizing the need for global access, mobility and investment to drive wealth creation.
Emeka Obegolu, president of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry, also marked the occasion by appealing to the federal government to intensify security measures. He warned that "peace and security remain critical to economic growth and investment attraction," and called for sustained actions against insurgency to boost investor confidence and job creation.
Both leaders linked democratic stability with economic development, urging Nigerians to seize global opportunities while the state works to ensure safety and stability.
