Nigeria Democratic Congress reports political violence in Rivers and Ebonyi

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) is reporting increased political tension and violence in Nigeria as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.

In Rivers State, unidentified individuals allegedly attacked the NDC secretariat in the Emohua Local Government Area. The incident involved the destruction of campaign materials, including billboards and posters, and the theft of valuable items from the office. The NDC is currently conducting grassroots consultations across various communities to promote its candidates, Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs and Dr. Mike Barieenee Nwielaghi.

In Ebonyi State, the NDC has raised alarms regarding the safety of its members following an incident involving a supporter, Maduabuchi Ogbee. The party alleges that the Commissioner for Commerce, Oguzor Kanu Offia Nwaliri, ordered thugs to abduct and assault Ogbee after the supporter campaigned online for an NDC candidate. The NDC Forum has called for the Commissioner's resignation, citing concerns over political thuggery and the safety of opposition members in the South East region.
