Nigeria domestic gas supply exceeds 2 billion cubic feet per day
Nigeria’s domestic natural gas deliveries have surpassed 2 billion cubic feet per day (bcf/d), according to Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas) Ekperikpe Ekpo. Total gas production has risen to approximately 7.5 bcf/d, up from 6.8 bcf/d in 2023, while proven reserves have increased to 215.19 trillion cubic feet.
The government aims to reach production levels of 10 bcf/d by 2027 and 12 bcf/d by 2030 to support power generation, manufacturing, fertilizer, petrochemicals, and export markets. To facilitate this, the Obiafu-Obrikom-Oben (OB3) pipeline has reached completion and is being prepared for first gas, with a capacity of 2 bcf/d. Additionally, the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) pipeline is approximately 95% complete.
Investment efforts include the deployment of 671 billion naira through the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund, which has reportedly attracted 1.6 trillion naira in private investment across 31 projects. Nigeria is targeting approximately $30 billion in gas-sector investment by 2030.
