Nigeria equities market sees surge in trading volume and tech investment

The Nigerian equities market saw a significant surge in activity for the week ending August 14, with traded volume increasing by 126.8 percent to 12.153 billion shares valued at N176.058 billion. Despite the rise in turnover, the NGX All-Share Index declined by 1.20 percent to 242,619.20 points as investors engaged in profit-taking. The Financial Services Industry led market activity, accounting for over 92 percent of total equity turnover by volume.

In the technology sector, listed Nigerian firms are showing increased investment capacity. Analysis of six companies—including Chams Holding Company, CWG, and E-Tranzact International—shows combined capital expenditure (CAPEX) rose to N3.23 billion in the first half of 2026, a 75 percent increase from the previous year. This growth is supported by a nearly twofold increase in combined cash and cash equivalents, which reached N37.8 billion, providing a buffer against high financing costs and expensive imported equipment.
