West African equities markets in Nigeria and Ghana have experienced significant surges in trading volume during August 2026.

While the GSE Composite Index and Financial Stocks Index both declined, the information and communications technology sector accounted for 62.64 percent of the weekly traded value. Market leadership in Ghana was driven by MTN Ghana and GCB Bank. GSE Managing Director Abena Amoah noted that monthly trades have increased significantly from last year, signaling a rise in retail investor participation.
