Nigeria establishes new army divisions in Taraba and Benue to strengthen security
Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba pledged full state support for the Nigerian Army’s newly created 10th Division, offering land and facilities to help the formation become operational. The division, headquartered in Jalingo, is intended to improve border security along Taraba’s extensive frontier with Cameroon and neighboring Nigerian states.
Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue praised President Bola Tinubu for approving the establishment of the army’s 5th Division headquarters in Makurdi, covering Benue, Nasarawa and Kogi states. The move is part of a nationwide expansion from eight to twelve divisions, approved by Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, and includes the recruitment of 28,000 additional troops and continued investment in equipment. Both governors said the new formations will enhance command and control, accelerate response to threats, and protect lives and property in their regions.
