Nigeria expands local content in oil and gas sector
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals is seeking to increase its use of locally skilled engineers and services to reduce reliance on an imported workforce. In discussions with the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), the refinery emphasized the need to transition from mere regulatory compliance to a national strategy focused on technological innovation and sustainable financing to drive industrial growth.
In a related effort to bolster local expertise, the NCDMB and Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited have launched a 12-month technical training program in Osun State. The initiative will provide 60 Nigerians with specialized skills in oil and gas engineering, including areas such as engineering design, computer-aided design (CAD), and mechanical maintenance. The program combines classroom instruction with supervised on-the-job training to prepare participants for meaningful roles within the country’s energy value chain.
