Nigeria expands rail and road projects to boost jobs and connectivity
Nigeria's government is emphasizing large‑scale transport infrastructure to spur employment and economic growth. Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi said President Muhammadu Buhari’s rail programme, including the Eastern line, Lagos‑Kano and Port Harcourt‑Maiduguri corridors, is expected to create between 20,000 and 50,000 jobs and open new industrial opportunities along the routes.
In a separate statement, Minister of Works David Umahi affirmed President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to equitable road development, citing ongoing contracts in Ekiti State such as the Ado‑Iyin‑Aramoko and Ado‑Ijan‑Ikole roads. Umahi promised that all federal road projects will meet engineering standards and be executed without delay, aiming to improve nationwide connectivity and boost local economies.
