Nigeria faces escalating kidnapping crisis and public distrust

Nigeria is facing a persistent kidnapping crisis that has fueled public anger and distrust toward government security responses. In Nasarawa State, residents of Mada Station in the Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area have called for urgent intervention after three people, including secondary school teacher Solomon Musa Ogah, were abducted in separate incidents within two days.

Across the country, abductions continue to affect students, travelers, and rural residents. In Oyo State, concerns have been raised regarding potential informants following the kidnapping of prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members traveling to Imo State, as well as incidents involving students in Niger State.

In response to the nationwide insecurity, the Defence Headquarters reported that troops rescued at least 50 abducted persons and neutralized 36 terrorists between October 2 and October 8. These operations included foiling an Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) attack in Borno State and rescuing 20 NYSC members in Imo.
