Nigeria youth teams advance in FIFA U-20 World Cup and WAFU B tournament

Nigeria’s youth football teams have achieved significant results in recent international competitions. In the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland, the Falconets advanced to the quarter-finals after a decisive 3-0 victory over England. Goals from Tosin Rafiu, Janet Akekoromowei, and Mary Mamudu secured the win, with goalkeeper Christiana Uzoma performing key saves, including a penalty stop. The Falconets are now scheduled to face Colombia in the quarter-finals.

In the WAFU B U-17 Girls Championship, Nigeria’s Flamingos also secured a 4-2 victory against Ghana’s Black Maidens. Despite being reduced to ten players following a red card for Elizabeth Adesuyi, Nigeria maintained their lead through goals from Oluwakemi Adegbuyi, Harmony Chidi, Mary Dunstan, and Kaosarat Akanji.

Additionally, the tournament in Poland highlights FIFA’s new mandate for increased female representation on technical benches, requiring at least one female coach or assistant and one female medical staff member per team.
