Nigeria Football Federation faces calls for reform after missing two World Cups

Former Super Eagles midfielder Seyi Olofinjana warned that Nigeria’s consecutive failures to qualify for the 2022 and 2026 FIFA World Cups should trigger a cultural shift within the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). He urged the federation to prioritize long‑term planning, professional administration and accountability, stressing that talent alone is insufficient for success.

Sports administrator and businessman Segun Solanke announced his candidacy for the NFF presidency, pledging to restore World Cup qualification. His campaign platform, “One Vision, One Nigeria, One Football,” includes a 10‑point programme focused on transparent governance, grassroots development, stronger domestic leagues, improved youth scouting, and greater support for women’s football. Solanke promises that under his leadership Nigeria will not miss another World Cup.

Both figures highlight the need for structural reforms and better preparation to return the Super Eagles to the world stage.
