Nigeria gas sector leaders focus on project execution and infrastructure

At the Gas Investment Forum, industry leaders emphasized the need to transition Nigeria from a country with vast gas resources to a functional gas powerhouse through execution and infrastructure development.

Engineer George Amara of UTM Offshore Limited highlighted the UTM Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) project as a key example of processing stranded offshore gas reserves. The facility is designed to produce approximately 1.83 million metric tonnes of LNG annually, along with 300,000 metric tonnes of LPG for the domestic market. Amara noted that while project execution in Nigeria presents unique challenges, local professionals possess the capacity to deliver complex energy projects.

Ralph Gbobo, Managing Director of Shell Nigeria Gas (SNG), stated that economic value is only created when gas reaches factories and powers productive enterprises. He identified four strategic priorities to accelerate the sector, including creating an investment environment built on confidence through clear regulations and expanding infrastructure to meet sustainable market demand.
