Nigeria gas sector sees major investment and acquisition activity
Nigeria is seeing significant movement in its gas infrastructure sector through both public investment mobilization and private acquisitions. The Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund (MDGIF) has successfully leveraged N671 billion in public capital to attract N1.6 trillion in private-sector investment. This funding is directed toward 31 gas infrastructure projects involving 205 assets nationwide. Once fully operational, these projects are projected to increase domestic gas supply by approximately 25 percent, delivering an additional 475 million standard cubic feet of gas daily.
In a separate development, a consortium led by Ardova Plc and Diadem Energy has reached an agreement to acquire Powergas Global Investments Nigeria Limited and Powergas Ebedei Limited. The transaction, which involves the exit of Danish investor A. P. Moller Capital, is expected to close by the end of 2026. Powergas is a major producer of compressed natural gas (CNG) known for its virtual pipeline model. Following the acquisition, Ardova plans to expand its CNG infrastructure by targeting 100 refueling sites across its retail network within 24 months, supporting Nigeria’s national initiative to transition toward a gas-powered economy.
