Nigeria Golf Federation announces return of Nigeria Open

The Nigeria Golf Federation (NGF) has announced the return of the Nigeria Open Golf Tournament, scheduled for November 16 to 20, 2027. This marks the revival of the nation’s premier golf championship after a 20-year hiatus. NGF President Otunba Olusegun Runsewe stated that the break allowed the federation to implement rebranding efforts and structures to meet global standards, including a new website, enhanced social media, and the introduction of the World Handicap System (WHS) to unify clubs nationwide.

In recent competitive news, Mike Makinde made history at the 29th annual Nigeria Cup Golf Tournament held at the Ikoyi Club 1938. Makinde became the first golfer to win three Nigeria Cup titles, securing his latest victory with a score of 65 net to win by four shots. Other notable winners at the tournament included Akeem Lawal in the Men’s Gross Category and Adeyosola Ayodele in the Ladies Net Category.
