Nigeria Open Golf Tournament revival
Overview
The Nigeria Golf Federation (NGF) has announced the return of the Nigeria Open Golf Tournament, scheduled for November 16 to 20, 2027. This revival follows a multi-decade hiatus, with reports citing a gap of either 20 or 28 years since the event was last held.
NGF President Otunba Olusegun Runsewe indicated that the federation has utilized the break to reposition Nigerian golf to meet international standards. Key organizational updates include rebranding efforts, new insurance policies, the launch of a new website, and the adoption of the World Handicap System (WHS) to create a unified framework for clubs across the country.
The upcoming tournament is expected to attract between 150 and 200 golfers from over 20 countries. Discussions are currently underway with the Lakowe Golf Resort in Lagos regarding its potential as the host venue.
