Nigeria advances airport development as Enugu Airport handed to Aero Alliance and Anambra plans second airport
The Federal Government of Nigeria formally transferred the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu to Aero Alliance Limited under a public‑private partnership. The concession, hailed by Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo and Enugu Governor Peter Mbah, will see the private operator finance, rehabilitate, expand and manage the facility, aiming to turn it into a regional aviation and logistics hub. Officials said the move ends two decades of stalled concessions and is expected to create jobs and attract investment, with further airport concessions planned nationwide.
Separately, Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo announced that a second airport will be built within one to two years to complement the existing Chinua Achebe International Airport. The new airport is a core component of the state's Aerotropolis City project, intended to boost passenger and cargo traffic, industrial activity and position the region as a major aviation‑linked economic zone in Africa.
