Nigeria road accidents claim multiple lives on major expressways

Several fatal multi-vehicle accidents have been reported across various Nigerian expressways, with authorities attributing the incidents to speeding and dangerous driving.

On the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, a crash near the Long Bridge involving a Toyota bus, a Toyota Corolla, and a Mazda bus resulted in the deaths of three women and left 10 others injured. Preliminary reports suggest a vehicle lost control and plunged into a ditch.

In Osun State, a head-on collision between a Toyota Hiace bus and a Volkswagen Golf on the Ife-Ilesa Expressway killed three people—two females and one male—and injured approximately 20 others. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) noted that the victims included three children.

Additionally, a crash on the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway near the Ugwu Onyeama axis involving a trailer, a commercial bus, and a car resulted in five deaths and 18 injuries. The FRSC indicated that wrongful overtaking and speeding were likely causes, noting that this specific section of the highway has seen frequent accidents due to poor road conditions.
