Nigeria House Minority Caucus Gives Federal Government 72‑Hour Deadline to Rescue Oyo Schoolchildren

The Minority Caucus of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, led by Representative Fred Agbedi, issued a 72‑hour ultimatum to the federal government and security agencies to secure the release of 45 pupils and teachers abducted from a school in Erinle, Oyo State. The caucus called for an immediate special military operation to rescue the victims and demanded a swift overhaul of the nation’s security architecture, including improved intelligence gathering and better welfare for frontline troops.

In the same briefing the lawmakers condemned the killing of Major‑General Rabe Abubakar while in terrorist custody in Katsina State and criticised the state of emergency declared by President Bola Tinubu, arguing it targets political opponents rather than the security threat. They also warned against the use of the courts to deregister opposition parties and urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to remain impartial, while calling for a six‑month National Security and Economic Recovery Plan.

The caucus’s demands aim to force the government to move beyond statements and take decisive action against the escalating wave of kidnappings and violent crime across Nigeria.
